Activated Carbon
Activated carbon is a highly porous form of carbon that is used to adsorb impurities
from liquids and gases. Water or gas passes through activated carbon, where
contaminants are adsorbed onto the surface of the carbon particles. The large
surface area of activated carbon provides numerous sites for adsorption.

Electrodialysis
Electrodialysis is a membrane-based separation process that uses an electric potential to drive the separation of charged ions from water. Water flows through a stack of alternating cation-exchange and anion-exchange membranes. An electric field is applied across the membranes, causing cations to migrate towards the cathode and anions to migrate towards the anode. The ions are trapped in concentrate streams, leaving behind purified water.
Ion-exchange Columns
Ion-exchange resins are polymers that can exchange specific ions within them with ions in a solution that is passed through. Water flows through a bed of ion-exchange resin beads. The resin beads contain charged sites that attract and hold ions from the water, exchanging them with ions of a similar charge from the resin. Cation-exchange resins exchange positive ions (e.g., H+ or Na+), while anion-exchange resins exchange negative ions (e.g., OH- or Cl-).
